Itsy Bitsy Spider- Dramatizing of story

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

Itsy Bitsy Spider is an all-time favourite. It is also very versatile in suiting children of different age groups.

For infants, you can pair it up with a massage session. Walk your fingers on baby's back or front mimicking a spider crawling up the baby's body/ back, providing baby with touch and auditory stimulation which is vital to baby's development.

Parents and teachers can also use this song with simple percussive instruments in dramatizing this simple story, introducing different timbre of the musical instruments, and exposing children to the up and down direction of the C major scale. Children who are 4 and above would be able to dramatize this music story given visuals too!

Lyrics:

The Itsy Bitsy Spider went up the water spout

Down came the rain and wash the spider out

Out came the sun and dry up all the rain

And the Itsy Bitsy Spider went up the spout again

(Special thanks to Lynn Kleiner, Music Rhapsody for coming up with such a wonderful idea for this traditional rhyme, and my students for allowing the videography of their musical creation during class time.)
